Course Summary:

In this intensive course, participants will work on improving test-taking strategies, enhancing sight, consecutive and simultaneous interpreting skills, and recognizing and correcting common errors in order to be prepared for the Court Certification Oral Exam.

This course covers strategies that will help for passing either the state or the federal court interpreter exam

The day begins with a a three-hour course. Afterwards there is an bonus two-hour add-on which includes more exercises of varying difficulty and more hand-on practice.

About the Instructor:

Javier Castillo is president of Castillo Language Services, Inc. in Greenville, N.C. He is a federal, state court-certified, and certified medical interpreter, translator, consultant, trainer, and internationally recognized speaker. Since 2007, Javier has offered training workshops for court, medical, conference, and community interpreters across the world. Javier is a contract interpreter for the U.S. Department of State and has been qualified (and has testified) as an expert witness in federal and state cases on interpretation and translation issues. He has developed and taught training courses for: staff and contract interpreters for the U.S. Department of State Office of Language Services, legal education courses for members of the judiciary, as well as courses on working with interpreters in the legal field at Campbell Law School and the UNC School of Law. Javier is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences, he is the former President of the Carolina Association of Translators and Interpreters (CATI), former Chair of the National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators (NAJIT), and head of the U.S. Chapter of the International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (IAPTI).
