Course Summary:
Every good interpreter has an effective note-taking system. For some of you who are already there, this will be a class to reflect on your practice and find spots for improvement. For others, this is the chance to step your practice up to the next level by starting to develop your note-taking system and skills. Starting with the very process of interpreting, the instructor explains not only how, but why we take notes, as well as the importance of understanding the message. This class explores various elements of proficient note-taking, including:
Layout
The use of placeholders
Speedwriting
Abbreviations
Symbols
Practice exercises (names, numbers, addresses, and more)
Wherever you are in your note-taking journey, there is no wrong way to do it, as long as it does not hinder your interpreting. Let us help you find the right way for you.
